Interlaw’s Firms in Australia and Japan Showcase Cross-Border Collaboration
Hunt & Hunt Lawyers and Momo-o, Matsuo & Namba, Interlaw member firms in Australia and Japan respectively, have recently collaborated on a cross-border arrangement whereby a Japanese judge will be seconded to Hunt & Hunt in Australia.
Japan’s Ministry of Justice (MOJ) reached out to Momo-o, Matsuo & Namba through a third party with an urgent request. It was seeking a top-tier law firm in Australia to host one of its judges for a month-long practical experience prior to a six-month research placement at Australia’s Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
While in Australia, the judge will focus on legislative activities and court practices in the country, with an emphasis on family law. It is worth noting that the MOJ typically reserves such international postings for judges whom it deems truly exceptional.
Recognizing the significance of this opportunity, Peter R. Tyksinski, foreign attorney at Momo-o, Matsuo & Namba, reached out to managing partner Hasti Kalarostaghi at Hunt & Hunt in Sydney with this unique proposition. Within three hours, Hunt & Hunt confirmed its willingness to host the judge before he commenced his research assignment.
"Hunt & Hunt’s swift response to the MOJ’s urgent request perfectly illustrates the power of the Interlaw network,” says Peter Tyksinski. “Within hours, we secured a prestigious secondment for one of the Ministry's most promising judges. It’s a testament to the network's ability to deliver flexible and exceptional results under urgent timelines."
Hasti Kalarostaghi said: "At Hunt & Hunt, we are honored to support this unique international initiative and welcome the opportunity to share our insights into the Australian legal system with Japan’s Ministry of Justice.Collaborations like these underscores the invaluable role of Interlaw’s global network in connecting firms and facilitating knowledge-sharing across borders. This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering legal excellence through global cooperation and exchange."
